The People of Heritage Properties: Meet Ian

Who makes up the team behind Heritage Properties? Next up in our recurring blog series, “The People of Heritage Properties,” is our Talent Acquisition Manager, Ian Stewart.

For Ian Stewart, Heritage Properties’ Talent Acquisition Manager, “putting people first” is accomplished through both big and small actions – and at the heart of it all is trust.

As Talent Acquisition Manager, Ian has a dynamic role – one that allows him to tap into his interest in human resources while searching for quality candidates to join the Heritage Properties team. "I have two sides to my job: there’s the hiring aspect, and there’s the human resources aspect," says Ian. "Day-to-day, I’m sourcing candidates through our various hiring platforms, scheduling times to chat with them, and conducting interviews. On the HR side, I’m handling onboarding, collaborating directly with current team members, holding regular check-ins, and more."

Ian began his career path into recruitment and talent acquisitions after college. A graduate of Keene State College with a degree in Communication and Media Studies, Ian’s first job after graduation was in medical recruiting, where he first found his passion for working with people.

"The most gratifying element has always been matching people with opportunities that ultimately make them happier in both their professional and personal life," says Ian. Whether it’s someone searching for a more challenging role or someone seeking work-life balance, Ian explains that helping an individual find their ideal opportunity is the most rewarding aspect of working in talent acquisition.

So, how does Ian find the right person for a specific role at Heritage Properties? Ian says that one of the first things he looks for is someone that is a team player. “It may sound obvious, but we are a small, close-knit company, and we all work closely together to accomplish our shared goals and tasks,” says Ian. “It all starts with that first phone call and getting an understanding of that person’s preferred work environment and culture.”

Following his first role in recruitment, Ian went on to develop his experience in staffing solutions at various agencies prior to joining the team. When he applied to work at Heritage Properties, Ian explains that he was searching for an in-house role that would allow him to develop tight-knit relationships and join a true team atmosphere. “I wanted to deepen my level of involvement with talent acquisitions and integrate human resources into my role, as it’s something I’ve always been interested in. Heritage Properties provided me with that opportunity and growth potential,” says Ian.

The opportunity to expand into human resources is something that Ian carries with him in his day-to-day role. “The trust that Heritage Properties offered me to break into the human resources field was incredible. I could tell from the get-go that Heritage is an incredible team to work for, and that trusting and collaborative culture is visible throughout the entire company,” says Ian.

Ian explains that, as a small and locally owned company, the Heritage team is always looking out for its team members and finding ways to set people up for success. “Heritage allows you to develop your role, own your position, and make it your own. At the same time, if you have questions or need advice, there is always someone who is more than willing to help. That level of one-on-one support and trust is something I work to embody every day in my own role.”

Outside of work, Ian spends his time golfing, staying active, finding new hiking spots to explore around Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and cheering on the New England Patriots.

Thank you, Ian, for your dedication to putting people first and for all that you do in developing and supporting our team! To learn more about Heritage Properties, visit us on Facebook & Instagram — and stay tuned for future blog posts introducing other members of our team.
